I Want Candy... and every else.

So i have way bigger eyes then my stomach. Or should i say that wallet is way smaller then my appetite for things. So i have a small list of things that i desire and i cannot get out of my mind. The bad part is when i am focused on things that i want, i work until I get what i want. However, basically everything on this list is not necessary so i figured that blogging about it would help get it off my mind so i can focus on more important things like cancer and Darfur. ( that is not a joke by the way)
1) Lesportsac 7839 Voyager Backpack in the Chrysalis print.

this is the print and i could not find it in the backpack so i decided to also post a picture of the backpack in my second favorite picture.
2) the next thing on my list is a demin button up shirt. I do not have a specific one in mind so no pictures :( But i really want one because you can dress it up and down. Its great for summer and winter. It would look great for school next fall i need to find one.
3) BEDDING BEDDING AND BEDDING. I am obsessed with anthropologlie bedding and home decorating materials. But obliviously, they are not cheap so I already have started wonderful christmas list.

So i had a huge list prepared but i can not remember so this can be part one of two.
I am just going to post the pictures from the movie Marie Antoinette. My favorite :)

Sail Away

Now knowing of Claire and my's crazy yet amusing adventures, you should hear about another one of our adventures that happened today. Just up the north shoreline from Chicago on Lake Michigan are a few suburbs, such as Evanston, grouped together to form the "North Shore" as they call it. (Creative huh?) Anyway, Claire and I took a venture up to the North Shore today and started our very first day of sailing camp at Northwestern University. Since Claire, the other adventurer, has done this camp before she told me the first day is always the most boring, when they are teaching you about the parts of the boat, the knots, and so on as so forth. At the end of camp today they had us go out on the boats with a counselor, so it is four people in the boat- three campers and one counselor. Of course in our boat Claire and I are stuck with a shy nine-year which is the opposite of our personalities. After camp, my grandma who was picking us up because she lives nearby took us to Mustard's Last Stand, which if you have not heard of it, is one of the best hot-dog, french-fry places in the entire universe. Tomorrow hopefully we have a more exciting boat adventurous boat ride especially when we capsize! :)

The Demon Dragonfly

Shirt thrifted, Sweater Boden, shorts Forever 21, Tights hue, Necklace blommingdales, Ring Presence

Today I wore one of the greatest I wore in a while. I went to brunch with Lucy (the other teen adventurer) and 4 of our other friends. We went to Nookies Too on Halsted. It was really good with a pretty good price range. It could be kinda expensive but if you go with many people and split the check it would be reasonable. My outfit was pretty good for a simple brunch and movie.
My sweater was a borrowed form my mom and I loved how it kinda has a blazer feel to it. It has a lapel and buttons with pockets. I am kinda over the traditional blazer so i really like this sweater. It would look cute over a sun dress on cooler summer days.

My shirt was thrifted and it originally had long sleeves. I was going to keep them because i liked the grandma feel of them but i decided to cut them because i wanted a shirt that would transitional for the summer. Also I'm keeping the sleeves so I can maybe safety pin them back on for a grandma punk look. Also i love my necklace which is all chainy with different color chains and one huge chain. It looks perfect with the lace shirt. The lace shirt now my favorite shirt. I have already shown you my pin stripped shorts and shorts with tights is look ever. So good outfit day and good day in general. Me and lucy went to go see Kung Fu Panda 2. It was even better then the first. "I AM PO AND I AM GOING TO NEED A HAT" Ahh jack black, can i just give you a huge hug. So yeah ITS FRIDAY FRIDAY GOTA GET DOWN ON FRIDAY. (Rebecca Black you brainwasher)

Stuck in the Room Slump

I don't know what has gotten into me the past few days, but apparently my new obsession is interior decorating. For right now my room is an average teen's room (perhaps more messy), but as I recently graduated and now it is summer I have nothing to do other than obsess over the looks of my room. I can't explain it, but there is a certain look I am trying to obtain by moving things around and purchasing a few new accents, which is sort of a mix between international, vintage indie, and boho, which is a harder task than it seems. My first step was cleaning my room, which I have mostly accomplished, but it has been a dreary yet oddly rewarded path to success (including me finding many personal journals and notebooks I have written in in my early childhood.) The other step which I attempted to start today, but disappointingly failed was looking for new things for my room. I took a trip down to the North and Clyborn area and toured many of their home decorating stores, but because of my certain taste did not strike gold. I did buy a pillow from Pier 1, but not under the store's fluorescent lighting was a horrifyingly ugly pillow, which I need to return immediately.

My one vice of a home decorating store is anthropologie. I has exactly what I am looking for, but is way way way way too expensive for me to even afford their adorable painted knob handle things. If I ever find a new look for my bedroom, I will give you guys a post about it. Wish me luck!

I love Princess and Penguin

So today being the first day of summer i did absolutely nothing. (actually i went thrifting for a little bit but i will post those goodies tomorrow.) I had a really cute outfit on but i had to change for swim practice so there you see the boring one in the photos above. I do love my train striped shorts. I want to be a hobo so very bad. I also love my Arcade Fire tour t-shirt. I just pranced around my room with my kate spade penguin change purse ( gift from my aunt and envy of all those who work at paper source.) I ichated with the other teen adventure (Lucy) and our best friend in the whole world Marisa.
So thats that. Enjoy Summer
You are all princesses. Even the boys out there.

Summer Cuts

Usually every year around summertime I have my hair cut shorter than usual to make it easier to care for between sport practices, swimming, and all around sweat. For me, this annual haircut took place on Saturday. I was nervous when the hairsylist kept cutting down my hair until it matched my "grown-out" bangs, but I am very happy with the results. For those of you who are just too lazy like me during the summer to go through with long hair-care routines, I would suggest chopping off a few inches. If you are worried about have a hard time styling a short haircut check out this link

Also, check out my fabulous haircut!!!

Cures for the gloomies

So lately I have been feeling kinda sad and writing just always makes me feel better so.. i decided to post about curing sadness. God knows I have used all these this week. My recommendation is to watch your favorite movies. For me it would be Breakfast at Tiffany's or clueless. Or both. When i have a "case of the mean reds" i watch Breakfast at Tiffany's and marvel at the clothes and Audrey. It might be completely cliche but i totally adore Audrey. I love that she has perfume and lipstick in her mailbox and her fabulous hats. It just cheers me right up. It helps that George Pepard is adorable.

Another thing i love to do when i am sad is go to www.stylerookie.com. Tavi is completely adorable and hilarious. The types of things she does seems like the things me and my friends marisa and lucy do. Her posts make me laugh and her sense of humor matches mine. I love getting inspiration from her blog. Her blog inspires me to be myself and go crazy sometimes. Clothes are not just clothes but ways to inspire and be unique. I can express myself through clothes and music
Another way to cure the gloomies is to listen to super depressing music like the smiths then all of a sudden switch to the most upbeat music you have. A great band is howler by the way. ( i need a whole post about them somedaY)
I will hopefully be cured of the gloomies so i can bring you a more upbeat summer post.

Last Day of School Adventure

Okay so our last day of school and our graduation from elementary school was on Friday. I know, its not that big of a deal later in life, but right now it is sort of a big deal for me. I had been going to the same school for ten years and on Friday it felt like it was abruptly coming to an end. A bunch of friends and I, after leaving school with tears in our eyes, went to the Salt and Pepper diner on Lincoln and indulged ourselves in sandwiches, burgers, french fries, and of course milkshakes. Our personal favorite shake from Salt and Pepper is the chocolate peanut butter shake. In a better mood, we wandered over to Jonquil Park where we proceeded to go into the playground and be the biggest people there by about seven years. I guess it's true that you never realize what you are missing until it's gone. I had my friend push three of on the tire swing until I felt nauseous. We all played the game Dragon where there is one person who is it and they have to tag the other people except they can't go on the playground equipment. We then ran through the sprinkle and my friend, hilariously, had a bucket of water dumped on her by a five year old.

Three friends and I walked back down to Armitage where two of us, both of the blog writers, tried to convince our guy friend to come into Benefit with us, but it did not work. For everyone that goes to Benefit, I recommend the cream eyeshadow. We then proceeded to go into Lush and only wash our hands with that exfoliating stuff and then leave, and then we went to MAC which has a totally different vibe than Benefit. While I was in there I was thinking for those of you who have read Hunger Games, that it seems like the place the contestants would have their makeup done. Personally I enjoy Benefit a lot better than MAC for many reasons, but for one obvious one, in Benefit we actually are greeted when we go in! Anyway, a bittersweet day in all, but a lot of fun!

Lets go to the movies

i love the virgin suicides. That is a kinda of surprising sentence considering the movie is about a bunch of teenage girls who commit suicide after their mother locks them in their room. But its a great movie because it touches something in you. It shows you how tough adolescence is and the toll it can take. It also shows how people never really know each other. Also who doesn't want 2 be Lux Lisbon. Tantalizingly beautiful and demurely sexy. Kristen Dunst never looked prettier and she makes you want to fall for the bad boy trip over and over again.

My ultimate favorite movie would have to be Stand By Me. This movie embodies friendship and loyalty. When I watch Stand By Me I feel the need to go on an adventure of any kind. It could be a trip to Bucktown but as long as it strengths my friendships, the adventure has done its job. Also Stand by Me, makes me put on some high tops and stripes. Or cat eye glasses. The stories it tells make you remember every childhood fantasy and every inside joke. So call that long lost best friend and go have the adventure of a lifetime.

The ironic fact is that my favorite romantic movie is not a romantic movie. 500 days of summer is the journey of joseph gordon levitt with his terrible love affair with zooey deschanel who is the infamous summer. I love this movie not only because i have the hugest crush of dear joseph. ( He is totally my type, nerdy cute with great taste in music) but because it gives the real story of relationships. They are messy, people get their hearts broken and smashed. The whole point of this movei is moving on and realizes and life goes on. Zooey ( my female idol. Remind me to do a whole post on her some day) wears the most adorable outfits and shines as a sweet malicious heart breaker. Can i be her?

Navy Pier: Overrated?

So now that it is the end of April (and hopefully warm soon) people will be beginning to hit outdoor attractions in the city and that's great, but I am here to inform you (don't be offended) that some of these covetted Chicago attractions can be overrated. The one especially that I would like to talk about today would be Nave Pier. Although Navy Pier is a great outdoor location, it is too expensive to do anything there other than just walk around and starve. Parking alone is around $30, so if you are even considering taking on this giant challenge, I would highly reccomend using public transportation. Just like an amusement park or airport, everything is rediculously over-priced. If you are just looking for somewhere new in the city to shop, this would not be the place. Everything there is either advertizing Chicago or is from a strange store, such as the Irish or Medieval store. If you want some real shopping suggestions we can make another post about that. Plus, if you want to engage in any activities such as the mini golf or the fun house, tickets are also expensive. In my opinion, the only truly worthwhile thing at Navy Pier is the ferris wheel.

On the other hand, the crowd-pleasing Millenium Park is the perfect place to spend a summer afternoon and is easy to get to by public transportation.

Throwback people

So today I went in a shopping spree with my mother for clothes and I realized something. That is that basics work and should be tweaked to your style to create something great. So on this trip, I went for a hobos clothes from the 30's, 50's classic mixed with grunge. I feel that if you find something original that works for you, tweak it so you out of comfort zone a little bit. When your truly out of your comfort zone you can find some great stuff and see how amazing some things look together. So no I'll give you some pics most are inspiration but 2 are mine so enjoy.

We're mixin it up

We have decided to broaden our horizons as a blog. We will now not only post regularly about our favorite restaurant selections but our favorite things music and fashion as well. We hope this is am improvement for all of you out there reading. We also will be posting more pictures so hang tight and hold on because there's a whole new teen adventures coming your way!

What's Hot Now- Philanthropy

It seems like this troubled world is never going to get by sometimes, but I am happy to tell you that a new fad is coming around that will keep you comfortable and oh so stylish.
One of my personal favorites are the adorably comfy Toms. When you buy one of these cute pairs of shoes they will donate a similar pair to third-world countries. Google these shoes and tell me if it can get better than this. I couldn't resist and got a pair for my birthday.

Moving on to cleanliness (I know, the subject you all want to discuss.) Right now Lush handmade cosmetics is selling an amazing smelling soap, in which all the proceeds go toward helping the natural disaster clean up for Japan through a charity called Peace Boat. This soap is only 5.95 and plus it looks like the Japanese flag, what's not to like?

Ok, food. Last weekend, I tried a new, hip burger joint on Wellington and Sheffield, right behind the Wellington brown line stop. This place has gourmet burgers, paired with unlikely, but tasty condiments and extras. I had the pleasure of going with ten of my family members, so I could try a wide range of burgers. I personally got the number 1 burger. They also have good salads, milkshakes, salt and pepper french fries, and killer Mac and Cheese. Now I get to the point, above the bar, they have a list of organizations around Chicago they donate to each month, so you can know you are eating your amazing burger for a good cause.

Finally, if you happen to have a few extra minutes, I reccomend going on one of these two websites (or both) to further benefit this planet.

freepoverty.com
freerice.com

On freepoverty, you play a geography game, and based on the number of points you donated cups of water to places that need it, and on freerice, you play a vocabulary game and for each right answer you donate 10 grains of rice.

Thanks! And sit back, relax, and save the world!

Music Time!

All you music lover out there are probably wondering when i will get to writing about music and here it is. So I right about the Pogues, an Irish Band that rocked my world to years ago. Most of there songs are about Irish injustice because most of the Pogues songs are about Irish injustice either that or .. whiskey but I'm going to focus on Shane McGowan's lyrical genius. In half the songs he sounds drunk ( its quite possible he is ) but the snarly voice gave birth to so many anthems. He was a voice of Irish history many would rather forget. My personal favorite Pogues album is If i should fall from the grace of god. It was on of the last with Shane Mcgowan.( never buy a pogues album without shane, they signed their own death warrant when the got rid of him) The name the Pogues came from pogue mahone which means kiss my a** in Gaelic. They shorten it too the Pogues because of BBC censorship. The pogues are a great band just because it is a perfect mix of punk and Irish folk music and some of the songs are just beautiful if you can understand the lyrics.

Top songs for me this week ( feeling a little bit like i should hav been born a few decades ago)
Baba O'Riley-The Who. always a great song i love the who so much
About a girl-Nirvana. a softer side of nirvana
Sunday Morning- No Doubt Gwen before she went mainstream
Sunday bloody Sunday-U2 im not a fan of U2(i think they r all to full of themselves) but i love this song

Andersonville

Today these two teens made a trip to andersonville. Which is a great little neighborhood near Edgewater, mostly along Clark. While known for mostly its overall gayness and over expensive home stores, it also has a great food scene. Today the teen foodies were not super hungry so we has a light snack at Kopi, A Travelers Cafe. Its a little ramshackle place smushed between a shoe store and a paper store. But inside it full of life, with its own small shop in the back with a bags and clothes. It also has a bookstore if you have finished the Fight Club for the 11th time (Its defiantly a place that people who read the fight club and a slightly towards the artsy side go) and notebooks if you are feeling creative. The decor is charming, with a section that is just small tables with tons of floor pillows to sit on. Now lets get down to the food. We just had a small snack of typical cafe food, however their menu is chalkfull of exciting and exotic food plus full blown meals.I got a fresh croissant with a blow of nutella which i dipped into with my hearts content. It was warm and fresh and overall amazing. The other foodie got a lemon poppyseed muffin. She negleted to tell me how it was because she was to busy stuffing her face with its warm delicousness. We also made a stop at Rad Vintage which is a new vintage shop that opened up a little off clark. Its got an okay selection, lots of guys stuff but they have a great shoes selection if you are looking for some funky boots in a sorta mens style. I think i might have to go back and get some of those vintage top siders i saw.
Alrighty, i think i might have to tune you in on some posts that are coming up. We have a few posts about lilcoln park coming up and definatly more about Andersonville. We are doing a whole series of posts on both so if you live in those nieghboorhoods, bully for you. We also are going to the Arcade Fire conert on Friday so we will have a whole post on that soon too.
One last thing. How are we driving. That is how are we doing blog wise. Show us some love (or hate but we prefer love) in the comment box)
Until next time,
the teen foodies.

Austin Addition

Hey guys! So one of your teens is in Texas for spring break and has been hitting up some great food joints. I have a few here for you so here we go. Of course, since it is Texas I went to a great BBQ place called Salt Lick. Very simple menu with good BBQ of all variety's. It is very family style with pretty big portions. You can order the online and cook it yourself at home.
http://www.saltlickbbq.com. Another restaurant I went to was a Mexican place called Mi Tierra. It was pretty good Mexican food. I has the chicken quesdillas and they were very tasty. http://www.mitierracafe.com/. This Mexican Place was in San Antonio but the BBQ place was near Austin. A place I went for lunch was an Austin chain called Which wich. It was a very good sandwiches and had a large variety. It is similar to Potbelly

Stella's

Stella's is another place in the Lincoln Park area on Broadway. One of the first things about Stella's that attracts is you the giant hand with a fork and knife in it on the outside. Stella's is a classic diner; fast-served food which is an array of everything. The good thing about Stella's is that there is something for everyone. I would reccomend going to Stella's for breakfast because they have this amazing egg skillet called the Hobo which comes in different forms that include different things, and make sure you order a side of their thick, crunchy sourdough toast. After you are done with your meal, you can walk a block down Broadway to get dessert at Bobtail Ice Cream, or stay right in your seat and order one of their many delicious shakes or a bakery goode! Either way a meal at Stella's is a always pleasing and satisfying! good choice

Address: 3042 N. Broadway Street, Chicago

Our First Restaurant

Our school is in Lincoln Park, and we feel that it is essential to explore that area. Two weeks ago we went to a Hawaiian Restaurant called Aloha Eats. It is a cheap, easy place to go to because it is never crowded. Personally, I had never had "Hawaiian" food, but I went out on a limb and tried a dish called chicken katsu, which is just a breaded chicken with a sauce on it. Every order comes with rice and macaroni salad, which are Hawaiian favorites.

I was pleasently surprised with my food, and their homeade sweet and tangy sauce was amazing! I must warn you though, the portion sizes are crazy big, so if you are going with three people, I would order two entrees. We also had the fried shrimp which was really well-cooked and I would reccomend it!

Hi You Guys!

Welcome to the insider's guide to the real Chicago because there is much more to Chicago than the wildly publisized Michigan Ave.and its sports teams. There are so many fantastic places to go and see, and we want to share our experience with you. Many of the places we go to are inexpensive, so we will try to post weekly and update you on great places to go for lunch and areas to explore. So come back and give us your feedback every week! Thanks
